Colin Kaepernick is willing to play for any NFL team that would employ him, sources told Yahoo's Charles Robinson.

"He's a professional Super Bowl caliber quarterback and in the best shape of his life and he would play if given the opportunity on any NFL team," one source said to Robinson.

Kaepernick has remained a free agent since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers and has been a leading advocate against police brutality and racial inequality.

The Washington Redskins represented a potential opportunity for Kaepernick when Alex Smith and Colt McCoy suffered season-ending injuries. The Redskins elected to sign Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson instead. Sanchez struggled miserably against the New York Giants on Sunday before being replaced by Johnson in a 40-16 loss.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden noted Sanchez's familiarity with the team's playbook when asked why they signed him earlier in the week.
