Rodgers: McCarthy always held Packers accountable

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers dismissed the notion that former head coach Mike McCarthy, who was fired hours after a 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13, didn't make every player take responsibility for their actions.

"There’s always been a great deal of accountability under Mike's program for the last 13 years," Rodgers told PackersNews.com's Ryan Wood.

Rodgers added: "I used to always tell him, I said, 'Hey, if you need to call on somebody in the meeting to let everybody know we're all on equal playing field, call on me first. Call me out.' Just so everybody knows nobody is off-limits, we're holding everybody to the same standard. And I feel that’s the way it always was."

The question of accountability within the organization - and specific to Rodgers himself - arose after Winston Moss, a longtime assistant coach, suggested Tuesday that Rodgers and others weren't being held to a high enough standard.

Moss was fired shortly after the tweet.

The 4-7-1 Packers and interim head coach Joe Philbin will look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive Sunday when they host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 14.
