The former coach of the Buffalo Bills can't quite understand why the team's current leader benched quarterback Tyrod Taylor this week.

Rex Ryan, an analyst on ESPN, said on "Sunday NFL Countdown" that he can't understand why the Bills opted to go forward with rookie Nathan Peterman.

"It's ridiculous to put the blame on Tyrod Taylor," Ryan said. "(Peterman), unless he's Jim Kelly coming back, I don't know why you make this ... switch. For whatever reason, Tyrod Taylor has not been their choice."

Taylor was the starter for much of Ryan's stint in Buffalo, which lasted only the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Ryan was fired after Week 16 last season, and Taylor was promptly benched for EJ Manuel in the season finale.
