Browns' Jackson hopes to make QB decision this week

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition is nearing the finish line.

After two weeks of preseason action, head coach Hue Jackson said he hopes to announce the team's starting quarterback for the regular season by Wednesday of this week.

"I need to watch the tape and honestly answer that question, but I have an idea in my mind based on what I felt and what I saw from our football team," Jackson said following Cleveland's 10-6 win over the New York Giants on Monday night.

The Browns played all four of their quarterbacks against New York, although none clearly separated themselves from the field.

Brock Osweiler drew his second consecutive start, and while he completed six of his eight passes, they went for just 25 yards combined. He also had a throw batted down by a defensive lineman that was intercepted.

Rookie second-round draft pick DeShone Kizer completed eight of his 13 passes for 74 yards and added five rushes on the ground, including a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Cody Kessler, the starter for much of last season, played in the third quarter and went a perfect 7-for-7 for 50 yards while playing with many of the team's backups.

The Browns' next preseason game comes Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
