Report: Martavis Bryant could be reinstated this week

Martavis Bryant may not be relegated to the sidelines for much longer.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, who has yet to practice as he awaits his conditional reinstatement, is now simply waiting on doctors and counselors to get paperwork cleared by the league, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Rapoport adds that the NFL will process those documents and could give Bryant his conditional reinstatement within the next few days.

News of Bryant being conditionally reinstated on the heels of a one-year substance abuse suspension first surfaced back in April. At the time, the NFL outlined that he could only participate in preseason team activities when arrangements are made for clinical resources in Pittsburgh.

Though there was some confusion as to why Bryant was still being held out of practice in the early stages of training camp, more than two months after the announcement of his pending reinstatement, Rapoport's update would appear to confirm there's still some work to be done in officially satisfying the stated requirement.

Bryant should return to practice soon after getting the green light from the league office, and he'll do so with the opportunity to regain the role he held before his second career suspension.

The former fourth-round pick gives the Steelers an explosive target with endless upside to deploy alongside perennial Pro Bowl receiver Antonio Brown.

In just 21 games across his first two seasons, a stretch in which he made only eight starts, Bryant amassed an impressive total of 76 receptions for 1,314 yards and 14 touchdowns.
