The Carolina Panthers have released offensive tackle Michael Oher, the team announced, citing a failed physical.

Oher had been diagnosed with a concussion in November and had not been cleared from concussion protocol prior to his release. Oher played three games for the Panthers in 2016 and started all 16 games during their 15-1 season in 2015.

The 31-year-old reported to minicamp in June not long after posting then deleting a photo of pill bottles with the caption "All for the brain smh."

The eight-year veteran had some legal trouble this spring, being accused of attacking an Uber driver in Tennessee in April.

Oher, who rose to fame as the subject of the movie "The Blind Side," also came to the defense of former GM Dave Gettleman after his firing on Monday. The Panthers named Marty Hurney as interim GM on Wednesday. The team also signed guard Trai Turner to a four-year extension Thursday.
