Kamara hasn't touched NFL earnings: 'I have not spent $1 of it'

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been extremely frugal with his NFL paychecks.

Kamara told former NFL wide receiver Andrew Hawkins on a recent episode of Uninterrupted's "Kneading Dough" that he's been living entirely off his endorsement earnings since entering the league in 2017. The 25-year-old attributes his money management to watching his mother work multiple jobs to afford essentials for their family.

"I get drafted, numbers start coming - like signing bonus, things like that - and I'm like, 'OK, this is more than I've ever had,'" Kamara said. "My mom ain't never had this much, my brother, my sister. So I'm like, 'OK, it would be a shame if I got this and lost it, right?' So I'm like, 'I'm just gonna keep doing the same thing I've been doing,' (buying) what I need, and that's it, you know what I'm saying? I'm not about to go over the top, I'm not about to live beyond my means.

"When I got to the league, I got my signing bonus, I went and got some wings, and I was like, 'Man, I'm not spending any of this money.' And to this day, I still have not spent $1 of my football money - new money or rookie contract money. I have not spent $1 of it."

Kamara signed a five-year, $75-million extension with the Saints last year that includes $34.33 million in guarantees. The deal tied him with Ezekiel Elliott as the second-highest paid running back in the NFL behind Christian McCaffrey.
