Former Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney says she was molested by a Team USA doctor numerous times over the years, starting when she was only 13 years old.

In a tweet Wednesday morning, Maroney alleged abuse by Dr. Larry Nassar, who worked with the American women's national gymnastics team and Olympic team for about three decades.

Maroney, who helped the U.S. win gold at the 2012 Games as a member of the "Fierce Five," said the first incident happened at a training camp in Texas when she was 13, and that "it didn't end until I left the sport."

Nassar told her he was administering treatment he'd been performing on patients for over 30 years. Maroney also claimed Nassar gave her a sleeping pill after a long flight at age 15 and that she later awoke in his hotel room receiving "treatment."

"Our silence has given the wrong people power for too long, and it's time to take our power back," she wrote, while urging others that "it's never too late to speak up."

Nassar is already facing 22 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and could receive a life sentence, according to ESPN.com. Attorneys representing 125 women suing him agreed to take the case to mediation in August.
