Former Tulane quarterback Darian Mensah is committing to Duke, he told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Mensah, a redshirt freshman, will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Blue Devils.

The California native passed for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions this season with the Green Wave. He led Tulane to the AAC championship game where he threw for 209 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against Army.

Mensah noted that head coach Manny Diaz made a favorable impression on him during his visit this week. He also highlighted Duke's academic reputation as a factor in his decision-making process.

"It's a prestigious university, and a great education is also important to me," Mensah said. "It's just a family out here. I wanted to be part of that."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound passer will compete for a starting role with Duke. The Blue Devils lost starter Maalik Murphy to the transfer portal after he threw for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns. Henry Belin IV is also in the running for the Blue Devils' No. 1 job.

Duke posted a 9-3 record in its first year under Diaz. The Blue Devils will cap their season against Ole Miss in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2.
