Fisher sounds off on Saban over NIL allegations: 'Some people think they're God'

Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher blasted Nick Saban during a heated press conference on Thursday after the Alabama coach said the Aggies used NIL deals to buy players.

"It's a shame we have to do this," Fisher said. "It's really despicable.

"It's despicable that a reputable head coach can come out and say this when he doesn't get his way or things don't go his way. The narcissist in him doesn't allow those things to happen and it's ridiculous.

"Some people think they're God. Go dig into how God did his deal. We build him up to be the czar of football. Go dig into his past."

However, Saban insists the Aggies finished with a top-rated recruiting class as a result of buying players.

"A&M bought every player on their team," Saban said Wednesday at an event in Birmingham, Alabama, to promote the World Games. "Made a deal for name, image, and likeness. We didn't buy one player. But I don't know if we're going to be able to sustain that in the future, because more and more people are doing it. It's tough."

The Aggies landed a historic 2022 recruiting class, signing five five-star prospects and 21 four-star recruits as part of its 30-player haul.

"We never bought anybody," Fisher said. "No rules were broken. Nothing was done wrong."

Fisher, who served as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach under Saban at LSU (2000-04) did not answer a phone call from the seven-time championship-winning coach prior to his presser.

"We're done. He shows you who he is. He's the greatest ever, huh?" Fisher said.

The SEC West division rivals will face off on Oct. 8 when the Crimson Tide host the Aggies.
