Quarterback Charlie Brewer has left Utah, the school announced Tuesday, according to Josh Newman of The Salt Lake Tribune.

"Charlie has decided to move on and we wish him the best," the Utes said in a statement.

Brewer joined Utah this year after spending four campaigns with Baylor. He won the starting job over Cameron Rising, but the passer failed to meet expectations during the first month of the season.

The signal-caller completed 60.8% of his pass attempts for 484 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions over three appearances. Utah kicked off its 2021 campaign with a win over Weber State, but the team has since lost to BYU and San Diego State.

Brewer was benched during Saturday's overtime loss to the Aztecs with Utah trailing 24-10. Rising entered and tossed three touchdown passes while almost orchestrating a stunning comeback.

Rising is expected to start Saturday's game versus Washington State, with second-year freshman Ja'Quinden Jackson serving as his backup.
