USC's Slovis leaves game vs. Washington State with injury

USC quarterback Kedon Slovis left Saturday's game against Washington State with an injury in the first quarter.

Slovis suffered the ailment after being sacked on third-and-12. He remained on the field before eventually jogging off under his own power. Jaxson Dart replaced him.

Slovis was spotted in street clothes after exiting the medical tent for a second time, per USC Football's Keely Eure. He did not play for the rest of the game.

The junior signal-caller completed one of his two pass attempts for eight yards before exiting the contest. He's thrown for 479 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while completing 65% of his passes through two games.

Slovis started all six contests for USC during the 2020 season, throwing for 1,921 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Dart, a true freshman, made his collegiate debut Saturday. The former four-star prospect was considered the top recruit from Utah, according to ESPN.

The quarterback sparked the Trojans to a 45-14 win over Washington State. Dart threw for 391 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also added 32 rushing yards.

Dart broke USC's record for passing yards by a quarterback in their debut, surpassing JT Daniels' mark against UNLV in 2018, Eure reports.

The win comes just days after USC fired coach Clay Helton. Interim coach Donte Williams earned his first win on the sidelines.

Williams played coy about whether the Trojans have a quarterback competition brewing after Dart's breakout performance.

"For all I know it could be Miller (Moss) next week," Williams said.

USC hosts Oregon State on Sept. 25.
