Nick Saban and Co. reeled in a key piece of Alabama's 2022 recruiting class on Friday when quarterback Ty Simpson announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on CBS Sports HQ.

ESPN considers Simpson the 27th overall recruit and second-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2022 recruiting cycle. The Tennessee native is also the second-ranked prospect in the state.

Simpson chose Alabama over offers from Tennessee and Ole Miss, among others.

"It was a super hard decision because all those programs have what I would ever want," Simpson said, according to Tom VanHaaren of ESPN. "But what it came down to was (staying) closer to home, player development, playing with the best guys, and getting prepared for the NFL."

The Tide continue to build off of their national championship win last season. Simpson is their fourth 2022 commitment and now their highest-ranked member of the class.

Alabama will start a new quarterback next season after Mac Jones declared for the NFL draft. The front-runner to win the starting gig is Bryce Young, who backed up Jones last season as a freshman.
