South Carolina's search for a new head coach is heating up.

The Gamecocks have scheduled an in-person interview with Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer, a source told Josh Kendall of The Athletic.

Beamer, who's in his third season with the Sooners, appears to have the most momentum for the position, Kendall notes. Beamer's interview is reportedly believed to be scheduled for Friday.

It was also reported that South Carolina would meet in-person with Scott Satterfield. However, the Louisville head coach later denied the report.

"While I am flattered my name was associated with another job, I have not pursued or sought out any offers," Satterfield wrote in a statement. "I am the head coach of the University of Louisville. We are building a strong foundation and culture. I love our players and the dedication they have shown to me and my staff.

"It's important that we continue the development of this program. We have an outstanding recruiting class coming in December, and I'm excited for the future of our football team."

Satterfield is in his second campaign with the Cardinals. He posted a 51-24 record at Appalachian State from 2014-18 and is 11-11 at Louisville since 2019.

South Carolina has already met face-to-face with Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell, according to Kendall. Chadwell's Chanticleers are 8-0 this season and rank No. 20 on the latest CFP Top 25.

Army's Jeff Monken, Louisiana-Lafayette's Billy Napier, and Liberty's Hugh Freeze have all spoken with Gamecocks officials on the phone, though it's reportedly unclear if any of them will have an in-person interview.

Last week, Freeze said he "won't even entertain" potential job offers with the Flames off to an 8-1 start.

The Gamecocks, who became the first Power 5 school to part ways with its head coach this season after firing Will Muschamp, are expected to name their new head coach before the beginning of the early signing period Dec. 16.

South Carolina suffered a 17-10 loss to Missouri last week in its first game without Muschamp. The 2-6 Gamecocks are currently on a four-game skid.
