Michigan State football team to quarantine after positive COVID-19 tests
All members of Michigan State's football team will quarantine or isolate for 14 days after a second staff member and one student-athlete tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, the school announced Friday, according to The Athletic's Colton Pouncy.
"As part of the athletic department's return-to-campus policy, student-athletes quarantine when coming into close contact with an individual who tests positive for COVID-19," the school said in a statement. "The university has designated areas available to house individuals in quarantine as needed based upon the living arrangements for student-athletes."
Spartan football players will be tested again before they're cleared to return to the field.
The news comes two days after athletic director Bill Beekman paused workouts due to a staff member's positive test results.
Michigan State joins Ohio State, Kansas State, Indiana, and North Carolina as programs that were forced to halt workouts due to positive COVID-19 tests.
The Big Ten will play a conference-only regular-season schedule and the Spartans are set to open the 2020 campaign Sept. 5 against Northwestern, though game dates are subject to change.
