Spencer Sanders - Oklahoma State

Opening odds: 80-1
Current odds: 33-1

I knew I was onto something with Sanders when the odds were released two months ago. Sanders dazzled in his first season with the Cowboys, throwing for more than 2,000 yards with 16 touchdowns and rushing for another 628 and two scores before an injury sidelined him late in the year. His move from 80-1 to 33-1 is warranted, but I'm not sure I'd be buying at this price with all the lost value.

Kyle Trask - Florida

Opening odds: 50-1
Current odds: 25-1

Trask is my other dog in the fight, originally opening 50-1 before having his odds chopped in half. He posted one of the most underrated stat lines in the country last year, averaging close to 300 passing yards in his 10 starts with 25 touchdowns against seven interceptions. The Gators looked good as a pass-first offense last season and should really open the playbook in the campaign to follow, making Trask an intriguing pick.

Chuba Hubbard - Oklahoma State

Opening odds: 50-1
Current odds: 16-1

Oklahoma State has three offensive players with odds of 66-1 or shorter (Sanders, Hubbard, Tylan Wallace). If they don't go over the total in at least eight of their games next season you can chalk it up as a huge failure.

Hubbard and Alabama running back Najee Harris were the two front-runners among running backs when the odds were first released. However, Harris saw a minor bump from 50-1 to 40-1, while Hubbard skyrocketed up to 16-1. I'm still opposed to taking running backs for the Heisman, but there's no denying that a player who compiled 2,000-plus yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground a season ago deserves to be the first rusher on the list.

Tanner Morgan - Minnesota

Opening odds: 100-1
Current odds: 50-1

I occasionally wonder what could have been for Morgan had the Golden Gophers not been so run-oriented in 2019. Consider Morgan threw for more than 3,000 yards with 30 passing touchdowns despite Minnesota clocking in at No. 16 in the country in run-play frequency. That's impressive.

Minnesota probably won't flirt with another Big Ten title in 2020. But pricing a quarterback who's coming off a 3,000-yard, 30-touchdown season at 100-1 was never going to last. This was an easy early buy.

Trending down

Adrian Martinez - Nebraska

Opening odds: 16-1
Current odds: 50-1

You couldn't find a Heisman piece from last season that didn't highlight Martinez. After a solid freshman campaign in 2018, the Nebraska quarterback had the third-shortest odds for the following season. He wound up underwhelming but was still listed among the favorites when 2020 odds opened. Oddsmakers seem to have finally caught on, as he's been relegated to the bottom of the list.

Myles Brennan - LSU

Opening odds: 20-1
Current odds: 28-1

I thought Brennan's opening price was bizarre. How is a quarterback with no experience and who will be missing two elite targets from last season's national title-winning team going to give LSU its second Heisman winner in as many years? I'd still need a much better number on Brennan, who's one of the few fallers in the early Heisman odds.
