Karl Dorrell is likely heading back to college football.

Colorado is working toward a head coaching deal with Dorrell, according to Dan Wolken of USA TODAY Sports. Barring any last-minute complications, a deal will be reached between the two parties.

Dorrell, who coached at UCLA from 2003 to 2007, spent 2019 as the Miami Dolphins' wide receivers coach. He previously spent four seasons with the New York Jets in the same capacity.

The 56-year-old led the Bruins to five bowl games and posted a 35-27 record as their bench boss.

Dorrell served as Colorado's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 1995 to 1997.

The Buffaloes hope to officially announce their new head coach "within the next 36 hours or so," Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports.

Mel Tucker resigned as Colorado's head coach earlier in February after one season to take on the same role at Michigan State.

The Buffaloes were reportedly turned down by Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy amid their coaching search. They also had a reported interview with New York Giants assistant Bret Bielema.
