Ohio State dismisses 2 players charged with rape, kidnapping

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Ohio State announced the dismissal of defensive backs Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint after the two were charged with rape and kidnapping on Tuesday.

"I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations," Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day said in a statement Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel obtained.

"The athletics department will make sure they both continue to have access to the health and well-being resources available to students and student-athletes," he continued. "Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, I will not be commenting further."

Ohio State suspended Riep and Wint shortly after warrants were issued for their arrests.

The victim alleges that Riep filmed the sexual assault and forced her to say it was consensual before driving her back to her residence.

The defensive backs appeared in 16 combined games in 2019.
