USF dismisses Charlie Strong after 3 years with program
South Florida announced Sunday that Charlie Strong won't return as the team's head coach in 2020 after finishing the season with a 4-8 record.
"I would like to thank coach Strong and his staff for their hard work and contributions to our program," vice president of athletics Michael Kelly said in a statement on Sunday.
"I have tremendous respect for coach Strong and his dedication to recruiting and developing young men of talent and character and leading them with integrity," Kelly continued. "He has represented USF with dignity and class and we wish coach and his family the very best."
Strong was hired for the position after three years with Texas, and he experienced immediate success, posting a 10-2 record in his first season with South Florida.
The 59-year-old was unable to replicate that winning in the following campaigns, producing a 21-16 overall record and going 3-14 against teams that finished above .500 during his tenure with the Bulls, according to Stadium's Brett McMurphy.
In 2019, the Bulls failed to earn a bowl-game berth for the first time since 2014.
