Bob Stoops' retirement from coaching was short-lived.

The longtime head coach at Oklahoma confirmed Wednesday he will resurface as the head coach and general manager of the XFL's new Dallas franchise.

"It'll be fun," Stoops said on KWTV in Oklahoma City, according to Sam Cooper of Yahoo Sports. "It'll be challenging for sure. If it wasn't, I wouldn't do it. And if it's not fun I won't do it.

"But I respect the guys running things ... this is 'real football.' If it was something goofy ... I wouldn't be associated with it."

Stoops retired in 2017 after 18 seasons at the helm at Oklahoma. In the time since he has been adamant he would remain retired.

The XFL begins anew in 2020.
