Quarterback Jalen Hurts is transferring from Alabama to Oklahoma for his final season of eligibility, he announced Wednesday through The Players' Tribune.

As a graduate transfer, Hurts will be eligible to play in 2019. He'll inherit the starting job from Kyler Murray, who succeeded Baker Mayfield. Both won the Heisman Trophy.

Hurts joins the Sooners after three seasons with the Crimson Tide. He arrived at Alabama in 2016 as a mid-tier recruit but won the starting job as a true freshman over a plethora of highly touted competitors.

He was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman and led the Crimson Tide to the first of two consecutive appearances in the national championship game.

But the turning point of Hurts' career at Alabama came in the national title game last January when he was benched for Tua Tagovailoa. He slipped to No. 2 on the Alabama depth chart in 2018 but remained with the program rather than transferring.

Hurts rallied Alabama past Georgia in relief of an injured Tagovailoa at the SEC championship game, instantly becoming a Crimson Tide legend.

The 20-year-old appeared in 42 games across three seasons at Alabama, throwing for 5,626 yards with 48 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 23 touchdowns.

Alabama defeated Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff this past season.
