Asa Martin will be transferring from Auburn, the running back announced via Twitter on Saturday.

The decision to transfer comes following the news that coaches unknowingly burned Martin's redshirt eligibility by seemingly erroneously assuming his fifth appearance in a regular-season contest against Mississippi State in early October was just his fourth.

The NCAA's redshirt policy allows students to play in a maximum of four games without losing a year of eligibility.

"We, his parents, made them see after they burned it that they had already burned it," Martin's mother, Sharay Harris told AL.com's Sam Blum. "They still wasn’t like - they didn’t acknowledge the fact that they had burned it. It was like they didn’t know. Like what do you mean you don’t know?"

Harris insisted she told the coaching staff beforehand that Martin had reached the four-game mark.

Auburn declined to comment on the mishap, AL notes.

Martin has yet to announce where he will transfer to. The four-star running back fielded offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan, among others before joining Auburn.
