Maryland hired Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley as its next head coach Tuesday.

It's Locksley's second stint as Terrapins head coach. He guided the team to a 1-5 mark as interim bench boss in 2015. Locksley also assumed the role while at New Mexico (2009-11), posting a 2-26 cumulative record.

Locksley won the Broyles Award for the 2018 season, bestowed annually to the best assistant coach in college football. Under his tutelage, Alabama has posted 47.9 points per game, second nationally only to Oklahoma.

The veteran coach takes over for the disgraced D.J. Durkin, who was placed on administrative leave after allegations of a toxic culture under his watch surfaced following the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair. He was fired on Oct. 31.
