Tagovailoa, Murray, Haskins named Heisman Trophy finalists
The final stretch of the 2018 Heisman race will be an all-quarterback affair.
Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa, Oklahoma's Kyler Murray, and Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins were named the three Heisman Trophy finalists Monday.
Passing yards | TD-INT | CMP% | Rushing yards/TDs | Rating | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tagovailoa | 3353 | 37-4 | 67.7 | 190/5 | 202.3 |
Murray | 4053 | 40-7 | 70.9 | 892/11 | 205.7 |
Haskins | 4580 | 47-8 | 70.2 | 122/4 | 175.8 |
Tagovailoa was the clear front-runner for the award prior to the SEC title game against Georgia, where he had arguably his worst performance of the year, throwing just one touchdown with two interceptions before exiting due to injury in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, a dominant Murray secured a playoff spot for the Sooners with a win over Texas in the Big 12 championship game, totaling over 400 yards and three scores.
Haskins also had a big title game performance, tearing through Northwestern's defense for almost 500 yards and five touchdowns.
Tagovailoa and Murray will face off in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 29.
