North Carolina football players are donating their meal money to buy supplies for those who were hit hardest by Hurricane Florence.

Head coach Larry Fedora said 85 players will donate $15, the per diem each would receive following Saturday's game against Pittsburgh, for a total of $1,275, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer. The supplies will be distributed to residents in the eastern part of North Carolina.

"We've tried to participate in as many of those efforts as we could," Fedora said. "We will continue to do that going forward."

Under NCAA rules, schools can provide players with a meal of up to $15 in cash after each home and away game.

Fedora and some of his players also helped load relief supplies onto trucks on UNC's campus Tuesday.
