LSU's Orgeron regrets hiring Canada as offensive coordinator

Regrets, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has a few.

Orgeron took over as LSU's head coach before the 2016 season, and through two years at the helm, he's posted a cumulative 15-6 record. This would be fine at most programs, but LSU is expected to be in the national title conversation every year, and it's likely that he's feeling some pressure.

During his media availability Monday, Orgeron admitted that he made a mistake in hiring Matt Canada as his offensive coordinator while providing a vote of confidence for current OC Steve Ensminger. Canada parted ways with the school after the 2017 season and has assumed the same role with Maryland.

"Circumstances were different when I got the job," Orgeron said, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. "I went out and tried to get the best coordinator ... it didn't work. And all the while I was saying: 'You know what? Steve Ensminger is the guy, and if I have a chance, I'm going to hire him.'

"I have complete confidence in the direction that he's going to lead this offense. He and I are on the same page."

Ensminger has risen through the LSU ranks, starting out as the team's tight ends coach and temporarily serving as the team's offensive coordinator before moving into a permanent capacity following Canada's departure.

With his staff completely aboard, it's on Orgeron to lead LSU to the grandest heights once again.
