Howard earned a 43-40 victory over UNLV on Saturday night and in the process set the record for the largest point-spread upset in college football history, according to R.J. Bell of Pregame.com.

The Bison entered the contest as a 45-point underdog but emerged victorious, topping the previous record set when 41-point underdog Stanford knocked off USC in 2007.

Howard was led by quarterback Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The younger Newton passed for 140 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but it was on the ground where he did the most damage, rushing for a game-high 190 yards and two more touchdowns.
