Anticipation for the upcoming college football season has built up throughout the dog days of summer, with fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see their favorite teams clash with their biggest rivals in a week in, week out tale of heavyweights fighting for the ultimate prize.

Meanwhile, WWE's SummerSlam, the promotion's biggest event of the summer, is still fresh in the minds of millions of wrestling fans across the world after Sunday night's show.

The intensity of a wrestling match can mirror that of an encounter between college football programs, as head coaches grapple with strategies much like heavyweights heading into battle.

It's no surprise, then, that some former college football players find themselves pursuing a professional wrestling career once their playing days are done. Former WWE champion Roman Reigns spent four years at Georgia Tech, while Mojo Rawley, aka Dean Muhtadi, spent his playing days at Maryland.

It would be easy to pick out a number of current college football players, throw them in a ring, and tell them to go nuts, but what if ...

What if college football head coaches had a Royal Rumble?

The idea of our favorite sideline generals duking it out inside a wrestling ring - taking out their frustrations on their biggest rivals - would surely be an event to remember, so here's a scripted Royal Rumble-style match with 15 of college football's most recognizable bench bosses.

Note: A Royal Rumble match features two competitors starting inside a wrestling ring, with another entering every two minutes. Contestants are eliminated when they are thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the floor.

Entrant 1: Dabo Swinney
Entrant 2: Larry Fedora
Entrant 3: Charlie Strong
Entrant 4: Mike Gundy

It's only fitting that Swinney should enter the Rumble first as the defending national champion, and that this opening quartet features a pair of conference foes going toe to toe for a strong opening few minutes of action.

Entrant 5: Bret Bielema

Seeing the imposing force that is Bielema would intimidate any man, let alone four. Bielema's stay in the match isn't long, however, as the other competitors band together in four-on-one fashion to push him over the top rope.

Entrant 6: Kliff Kingsbury
Entrant 7: Jim McElwain
Entrant 8: Brian Kelly

After a slow walk to the ring, Brian Kelly enters and is swiftly eliminated by Kingsbury after taunting the crowd.

Entrant 9: Ed Orgeron

Orgeron immediately uses his size and strength to take down every one in the ring in dominating fashion.

Entrant 10: Tom Herman

As Orgeron is admiring his handiwork, Herman emerges as the next entrant. The two have a recent history of feuding over satellite camps, and the big men waste little time in coming to blows.

Simultaneously, conference rivals Gundy and Kingsbury tie up near the ropes and Gundy believes he's eliminated Kingsbury by throwing him over the top. Only one of Kingsbury's feet hits the floor, however, and he's able to recover and eliminate the Oklahoma State coach as he celebrates.

Unfortunately for Kingsbury, he gets caught celebrating as well and is knocked out by Swinney.

Entrant 11: Pat Narduzzi
Entrant 12: Derek Mason

Narduzzi hits the ring like a wild man and immediately goes after ACC rivals Swinney and Fedora. Swinney is able to avoid the attack as Narduzzi and Fedora tie up near the ropes, but both men are eliminated by McElwain who was hiding in a corner.

Entrant 13: Urban Meyer

As Meyer makes his way to the ring, a masked villain in khakis appears from the crowd with enthusiasm unknown to mankind and conks him over the head with a clipboard.

Suddenly, shouts of "AKRON, AKRON, AKRON" are heard and James Franklin rushes down the entrance ramp. He rips off the mask to reveal Jim Harbaugh as the culprit, and the two take their tussle into the crowd as Meyer slowly gets into the ring.

At this time, Herman has gained an upper hand on Orgeron, only to have former Texas head coach Strong attempt to eliminate him. Orgeron then capitalizes on the distraction and eliminates both men with a thunderous double clothesline.

Entrant 14: P.J. Fleck

Fleck is one of the most energetic and determined head coaches in college football, but his participation in this match resembles that of Santino Marella in the 2009 Royal Rumble as he's immediately eliminated by Meyer.

McElwain then tries to seize an opportunity and eliminate the Ohio State bench boss. Meyer sees him coming, however, and pulls the top rope down to send McElwain tumbling to the mat. Meyer is next caught admiring his elimination and Mason is able to land a drop kick that sends him somersaulting over the top rope

After Mason is quickly eliminated by Orgeron, Swinney is the only other man remaining in the match. A lengthy battle ensues between the two, and it seems like one of them will prevail as they tie up at the ropes.

Entrant 15: Nick Saban

Saban unexpectedly appears, strutting down to the ring like Vince McMahon as neither Orgeron or Swinney seem to notice. Saban watches as Orgeron eliminates Swinney and then tries a surprise attack on Orgeron, who blocks it.

Orgeron then begins to go after Saban, looking to become the baddest man in the SEC, when suddenly, former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian appears out of the crowd and distracts Orgeron. Saban is able to capitalize, pushing Orgeron over the top rope from behind to claim victory.

WINNER: Nick Saban

Saban is one of the elder competitors in this Royal Rumble, and certainly not the most physically imposing. Still, his intelligence and preparation often lead him to victory, and really, who in college football today has won more than he has?
