The Detroit Tigers officially signed 2018 first overall draft choice Casey Mize on Monday, according to an announcement from the team.
Mize will receive a signing bonus of $7.5 million, according to a report from Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, which is a new record under the current draft structure, topping the $7.23 million the Cincinnati Reds handed Hunter Greene last year. Mize signed for $596,300 under slot value, according to Fenech.
The 21-year-old Mize pitched for Auburn last season and had "the best combination of stuff and control among college pitchers in the 2018 draft," according to MLB Pipeline.
