Illinois' Dosunmu declares for NBA draft, will hire agent
Illinois star Ayo Dosunmu is declaring for the NBA draft and will forgo his remaining college eligibility by hiring an agent, he announced Tuesday, according to ESPN's Jonathan Givony.
Dosunmu is ranked as the 22nd-best available player in the 2021 draft by ESPN.
The Fighting Illini junior averaged 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.1 steals this season and shot 38.6% on 3-pointers. He was named a consensus All-American and received the Bob Cousy Award for the top point guard in the country.
The 21-year-old led Illinois in scoring and helped it win the Big Ten Tournament. The Fighting Illini were a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament but fell in a second-round upset to Loyola Chicago.
Dosunmu is one of five finalists for the John R. Wooden Award, which is given annually to the best player in college basketball. He was also a finalist for the Naismith Trophy, which was awarded to Iowa senior center Luka Garza.
