Josh Brooks will be Georgia's new athletic director, the school announced Wednesday.

Brooks took over as interim AD after Greg McGarity said he was retiring at the end of the year. McGarity spent the last 11 years with the school.

"From visionary and strategist to contract negotiator, fundraiser, and champion for student-athletes - the modern-day athletic director must effectively wear many hats," Bulldogs president Jere W. Morehead said in a statement. "I am confident that Josh can wear all of these hats extraordinarily well, and I am excited to see our athletic program continue to evolve as one of the premier programs in the nation with him at the helm."

Brooks joined Georgia in December 2016 as executive associate athletic director and received a number of promotions over the last four years.

The search for the school's new athletic director was overseen by an 11-person advisory committee.

Georgia's athletic department includes 21 Division I sports teams. The football squad is coming off three SEC East division titles in four years, while its basketball program qualified for the NCAA tournament twice over the last 10 years.
