The NCAA announced on Friday that Kansas forward Silvio De Sousa is eligible to play in 2019-20 after sitting out last season due to rules violations.

De Sousa was originally suspended for two years, but the NCAA reduced his punishment after Kansas' appeal was approved.

The 20-year-old would-be junior quickly tweeted out a video thanking his supporters.

Jayhawks head coach Bill Self ripped the NCAA after De Sousa was suspended in February because his guardian accepted a $2,500 payment from a Kansas booster.

"In my 30-plus years of coaching college basketball, I have never witnessed such a mean-spirited and vindictive punishment against a young man who did nothing wrong," Self said at the time. "To take away his opportunity to play college basketball is shameful and a failure of the NCAA.

De Sousa is now expected to return to Kansas. He had entered his name into the NBA draft process but didn't receive an invite to the combine.
