Despite losing to Kansas State on Sunday, there won't be many people contesting the fact UMBC head coach Ryan Odom has had a tremendous week.

Odom's roster of unknowns was a part of a huge upset when his 16th-seeded Retrievers dominated the second half of their first-round matchup against top-seeded Virginia en route to a blowout victory.

Unsurprisingly, it seems UMBC is ready to reward Odom for his accomplishment.

Athletic director Tim Hall said the school needs to "do within our realm what we can" to keep the coach, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

"We obviously can't do what the Power 5 schools can do, or anything near that," Hall said. "I think at some point Ryan wants to do it on a bigger stage. I'm just hoping it's down the road instead of now."

He was signed to a seven-year contract in 2016, which pays him $230,000 per season, and has led UMBC to 20-plus wins in both his campaigns in charge; the school had only accomplished the feat twice in the 30 years prior to his arrival.

UMBC had only made the NCAA tournament once before this season, losing in the first round in 2008.
