Report: Bigby-Williams played while under investigation for sexual assault

Kavell Bigby-Williams played the 2016-17 season while under criminal investigation for sexual assault, Kenny Jacoby of the Daily Emerald reports.

The 6-foot-11 forward averaged three points per game for Oregon last season, and announced his transfer to LSU on Tuesday. He began his career in the junior college ranks before heading to the Ducks, where he spent just the one campaign.

A police report obtained by the Eugene-based newspaper said the British big man avoided a detective on multiple occasions.

Head coach Dana Altman, athletic director Rob Mullens, and others in the school's athletic department supposedly knew police had requested Bigby-Williams' contact information, but never inquired why.

Altman, who led Oregon to the Final Four last season, came under fire in 2014 for allowing three players who were alleged to have sexually assaulted a female student to continue playing.

When asked about the sexual assault investigation, Oregon president Michael Schill said he didn't know of the allegation against Bigby-Williams.

"I don't have any awareness of that," he said. "In any event, I can't comment on an individual student. What if I was asked by another reporter about you being obnoxious? Would you want me to tell them that?"
