The Atlanta Hawks have shifted their focus to Dallas Mavericks veteran Anthony Davis following Wednesday's trade of Trae Young to the Washington Wizards, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Trading Young has given the Hawks the financial flexibility to take on Davis' contract, Charania adds. However, Atlanta could face challenges in matching salary and would likely need to include Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kennard in a potential deal for the 32-year-old.

Davis will make $58.5 million next season in the final year of a three-year, $175.4-million contract, which includes a $62.8-million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.

The Hawks are approximately $6.8 million under the luxury tax threshold after the Young deal, and the organization has displayed resistance to paying the luxury tax in the past.

Davis has appeared in 19 games for the Mavericks this season, missing time due to a calf strain. The four-time All-NBA first team selection is averaging 20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. An injury limited Davis to just nine contests with Dallas last season after the Mavs acquired him from the Los Angeles Lakers in the blockbuster move for Luka Doncic in early February.

The Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors are also reportedly monitoring Davis' situation ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. ET.

The Hawks sent four-time All-Star Young to the Wizards in exchange for veteran guard CJ McCollum and forward Corey Kispert.

Atlanta entered the 2025-26 season with high expectations after adding Porzingis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker in the summer. However, the team has struggled, winning three of its last 12 games and going 2-8 with Young in the lineup.

The Hawks sit ninth in the Eastern Conference with an 18-21 record following Wednesday's 117-100 home victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
