Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro will be sidelined through the start of the regular season following surgery on his left foot and ankle on Friday, sources told Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.

Herro has been dealing with an impingement in his left foot since midsummer and was hoping to avoid surgery to address the issue, Chiang adds.

However, the 25-year-old reportedly opted for the late offseason procedure after cortisone and platelet-rich plasma injections failed to alleviate the discomfort.

Herro led Miami in scoring last season with a career-high 23.9 points per game. He registered shooting splits of 47.2/37.5/87.8 and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. The campaign was also Herro's best in terms of availability, as he missed just five games before helping the Heat make the postseason through the play-in tournament.

Miami opens the regular season on Oct. 22 against the Orlando Magic.
