Cavs bring back Okoro on 3-year, $38M deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers are re-signing restricted free agent Isaac Okoro to a three-year contract worth $38 million, his agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Okoro is guaranteed $33 million in the deal, sources told Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

The former fifth overall pick alternated between stints as a starter and a reserve in his fourth NBA season. Okoro started 42 of 69 games and averaged 9.4 points, three rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting a career-best 39.1% from deep (3.1 attempts per game) in 2023-24.

The 23-year-old has also become one of Cleveland's most dependable perimeter defenders. During the regular season, the team surrendered 6.3 points per 100 possessions more when he sat compared to when he played. Opponents shot 45.2% overall on attempts defended by Okoro last campaign, the sixth-best mark on the club but third-best among Cavs players who actively defended at least seven field goals per game.

Okoro is the latest in a list of core players Cleveland has secured long term this offseason. Beginning with a three-year, $150.3-million extension for star guard Donovan Mitchell, the Cavs also signed starting center Jarrett Allen to a $91-million extension over three years that kicks in for the 2026-27 campaign. Allen's frontcourt partner, Evan Mobley, also has his future tied to the franchise with a five-year rookie extension that could climb to as high as $269 million.
