Report: Klay open to all offers in free agency
Klay Thompson is prepared to leave the Golden State Warriors if another franchise comes calling, Shams Charania reported on "Run It Back."
Thompson is set to hit the open market for the second time in his career this summer. He briefly entered free agency in 2019 but promptly signed a five-year, $190-million deal to remain with Golden State.
The Warriors plan to remain in contact with Thompson while he goes through the free-agency process, Charania adds. The team will have an exclusive negotiating window beginning the day after the NBA Finals ends until June 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
Thompson is looking for an offer of at least three years, league sources told Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy, head coach Steve Kerr, and star players Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have voiced their desire for Thompson to return, though the organization appears content to let him test the market.
Golden State reportedly offered Thompson an extension prior to the 2023-24 campaign.
The Orlando Magic are believed to be exploring the possibility of signing Thompson, with both sides reportedly sharing mutual interest in a move.
A five-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection, Thompson missed the 2019-20 season while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee suffered during the 2019 Finals against the Toronto Raptors. He then tore his Achilles tendon in his right foot during a pickup game in late 2020, sidelining him for an entire second season.
Since returning to the court in January 2022, Thompson has occasionally struggled with his shooting consistency and defense, two hallmark qualities of his that were vital during the Warriors' run of four championships from 2015-22.
Despite taking a step back in his 11th NBA season this year, the Splash Brother still averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 38.7% on nine 3-point attempts per game. He also led the league at the free-throw line with a 92.7 shooting percentage, the best single-season rate of his career since being drafted 11th overall by Golden State in 2011.
