Report: Rockets trading Wood to Mavericks for 26th pick, 4 players
The Houston Rockets are finalizing a deal to trade big man Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The Mavericks will send Boban Marjanovic, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss, and the No. 26 pick in the upcoming draft to the Rockets for Wood, Charania reports.
The 26-year-old averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and a block in 68 games for Houston last season.
The Rockets were looking to move Wood to open up playing time for 19-year-old big man Alperen Sengun, ESPN's Tim MacMahon reports.
The Rockets now have three first-rounders in next week's draft, including the No. 3 and No. 17 selections.
Wood is entering the last year of a three-year, $41-million contract he signed in 2020. The UNLV product had a breakout season with the Detroit Pistons in 2019-2020, averaging 13.1 points in 62 games after previously playing a combined 72 contests over three seasons.
The Mavericks are coming off an unexpected run to the Western Conference finals. Dallas prioritized upgrading the center spot after the team lost in five games to the Golden State Warriors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Chriss underwent knee surgery Wednesday and is expected to spend the next few months rehabbing, Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes reports.
Dallas has only made three of its own first-round picks since 2015.
