Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is optimistic teammate Anthony Davis will return to his former self next season after his injury-riddled 2022 campaign.

Davis averaged 23.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 40 games this past season. His 10th year marked the first time since his rookie campaign that he did not make an All-Star team.

The 29-year-old missed 17 games with an MCL injury during the first half of the season. He subsequently missed 18 more games with a right ankle injury that took place before the All-Star break. The Lakers went 16-26 without Davis this season, according to Statmuse.

Davis returned to the lineup at the beginning of April. The Lakers ultimately missed the playoffs for the first time in the last three seasons.

During the offseason, the Lakers dismissed head coach Frank Vogel and hired Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham to fill the vacancy.
