Gilgeous-Alexander: I want to be among the 'greatest to ever play'

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander isn't shy about expressing his lofty career goals.

The rising Oklahoma City Thunder star wants to be remembered as more than just a good player when he retires.

"I want to be one of the best point guards to ever play," Gilgeous-Alexander told GQ's Tyler Tynes. "I’m not playing this game just to be a good basketball player. I want to be one of the greatest to ever play."

The floor general has made impressive leaps so far. After averaging 10.8 points per game as a rookie with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018-19, Gilgeous-Alexander's scoring production climbed to 19 points per contest the next campaign with the Thunder.

The Canadian suffered a plantar fascia tear that cut his third season short, but he still managed to take another step forward over 35 games while averaging career highs in multiple categories, including points per game (23.7), assists per game (5.9), field-goal percentage (50.8%), and 3-point percentage (41.8%).

The Thunder are again expected to be jockeying for a high lottery pick in next year's draft, and Gilgeous-Alexander should get ample opportunity to keep developing.
