Pacers' McConnell comes 1 steal shy of single-game NBA record

T.J. McConnell generally isn't the first NBA player who comes to mind when thinking of record performances, but the Indiana Pacers guard logged a historic night Wednesday.

McConnell recorded 10 steals - one shy of the single-game NBA record - in a 114-111 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Nine of them came in the first half, which was a record.

By adding 16 points and 13 assists, McConnell became the first player to finish with a points-assists-steals triple-double since Mookie Blaylock in 1998 and the first Pacers player to post a triple-double off the bench since Detlef Schrempf in 1993.

He's also just the 11th player to record a triple-double with steals since they became an official statistic in 1973, according to Elias Sports.

McConnell entered Wednesday's action averaging 1.2 steals in 415 NBA games, and his previous single-game high was six. The 28-year-old is averaging a career-high 25.1 minutes per contest this season.
