Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic won't play Wednesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a back injury, head coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Carlisle said Doncic has been bothered by the injury for two-and-a-half weeks.

"It's just something where he needed to take a game," Carlisle added.

Doncic, who turned 22 on Sunday, was named a Western Conference All-Star starter for the second straight year. The midseason exhibition will take place in Atlanta on March 7.

Carlisle expects Doncic will participate in the All-Star Game and Skills Challenge, according to Mavs.com's Dwain Price.

Doncic missed only one other game this season due to a left quad contusion.

The third-year star has registered three 40-point performances in his last 10 outings for the 17-17 Mavs.
