Report: NBA expected to tweak 2-way contract rules

The NBA is expected to ratify changes to its rulebook that would allow players to remain on two-way contracts beyond 50 games and be eligible for the postseason, sources told ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

There's reportedly no agreement in place with the National Basketball Players' Association yet, but the union is supportive of the changes.

Adjusting the rules was resisted in the preseason over concerns with how teams could conceivably use two-way player roster spots as a means of suppressing salaries. However, the NBPA's concerns have waned over the first half of the season, in part due to ramifications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, ESPN reports the expected agreement would allow two-way players who surpass 50 games to be paid at scale with the NBA's current minimum contract, the same amount they would otherwise make if their deals were converted to standard contracts.
