Report: Some NBA teams expect free agency to start as late as October

NBA stars may have to wait until the fall to choose their next destination.

Some teams around the league believe this year's free-agency period may not start until Oct. 1, reports Marc Stein of The New York Times.

There are reportedly also expectations that the draft will take place in September.

Players on expiring contracts are currently scheduled to become free agents at 6 p.m. ET on June 30. However, that date is all but guaranteed to be pushed back if the NBA resumes the suspended season, with talks ongoing about a late-July restart in Orlando.

Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis is expected to be the top free agent available this year, as he's likely to decline his player option in hopes of securing an improved, long-term contract. However, he reportedly intends to remain with the Lakers.
