The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a buyout with guard Reggie Jackson, the team announced. The floor general plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers upon clearing waivers, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Jackson, 29, will likely slot in as the Clippers' third-string point guard behind traditional starter Patrick Beverley and backup Lou Williams, though the latter can also complement Jackson's playmaking ability as a two-guard.

He's owed $5.7 million for the remainder of the season, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks, though it's unclear how much Jackson will return to the Pistons as part of their buyout agreement. He'll be a free agent at the end of the campaign.

The Los Angeles Lakers were also hoping to sign Jackson from the buyout market, Wojnarowski adds.

Both Los Angeles squads have been conspicuously searching to add another ball-handler to their rosters. Former Indiana Pacers guard Darren Collison was on both the Clippers' and Lakers' radars, but he informed teams last week that the timing wasn't right for a return and chose to remain retired.

Jackson is averaging 14.9 points and 5.1 assists across 14 games this season. He signed a five-year, $80-million contract in 2015.
