Report: Warriors, Curry targeting March 1 return from hand injury
The Golden State Warriors are targeting their March 1 game against the Washington Wizards for star point guard Stephen Curry to potentially return from a hand injury, The Athletic's Marcus Thompson II reports.
Though the exact date of the 31-year-old's return hasn't been confirmed, Curry is expected to play again in 2019-20, according to Thompson. The two-time MVP has been sidelined since suffering a broken left hand against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 30 in just the fourth game of the season.
Appearing on Saturday's broadcast of the Warriors' 109-95 win over the visiting Orlando Magic, Curry told broadcasters Kelenna Azubuike and Bob Fitzgerald he'd faced "no setbacks" in his rehabilitation.
"Rehab is going great, every day is tough," said Curry, according to NBC Sports' Alex Didion. "When you're hurt - and we've all been there in some way, shape, or form - it's a grind, every day kind of being monotonous with the little strength workouts you have to do, and you understanding that it takes time and patience to get back to 100 percent."
A March 1 return would allow Curry to play as many as 22 games down the stretch of the regular season - which is almost certainly as far as the Warriors will go this year. After five straight trips to the NBA Finals, Golden State's injuries - including one to Klay Thompson, who tore his left ACL in last year's Finals - have torpedoed the team's postseason aspirations.
The Warriors currently sit dead last in the NBA standings with a 10-34 (.227) record.
