Anthony Davis out vs. Mavericks

Anthony Davis will not play when the Los Angeles Lakers visit the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, the team announced. The move wasn't unexpected after Davis injured his back in Tuesday's win over the New York Knicks.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel said Thursday the team would take a "long-term marathon approach" in allowing Davis to recover but didn't say the six-time All-Star would miss any significant time.

Kyle Kuzma is expected to get just his second start of the season with Davis out. This is the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the Lakers and Mavs, with L.A. winning two of three so far.
