Former NBA commissioner Stern undergoes emergency brain surgery

Former NBA commissioner David Stern underwent emergency surgery Thursday after suffering a brain hemorrhage, the NBA announced.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with David and his family," commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement with few details.
Stern was the NBA's commissioner from 1984 through 2014. He succeeded Larry O'Brien in the role and oversaw the league as it exploded in growth and popularity across the globe.

The 77-year-old collapsed at a Manhattan restaurant and was rushed to a local hospital, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
