The NBA denied that it has been working with Alabama police to coordinate the surrender of Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, league spokesperson Mike Bass told ESPN's Dave McMenamin on Tuesday.

"It is categorically untrue that the NBA reached out to the Mobile Police Department to facilitate DeMarcus Cousins' surrender," Bass said.

The statement was in response to a TMZ report earlier Tuesday that suggested the police department talked to the NBA about coordinating a surrender date for Cousins.

Cousins is facing a misdemeanor domestic violence charge after his ex-girlfriend said he threatened her over the phone. Police issued an arrest warrant Aug. 29.

The 29-year-old has been present at Lakers training camp, though he is expected to miss the entire season after tearing his left ACL during a summer workout. The league granted the team a $1.75-million injured player exception for Cousins in September.
